The tone it made before it went silent was quite interesting. The 910 simply has one input and output where as the 949 also has a separate delay output, so you can use it as an FX unit and a DDL line, the 949 will also come with many and varied options such as de-glitching circuit boards full of DBX VCAS and other parts, alongside other compassion, expansion type daughter boards sitting on stand offs etc. I tried another 949 which I was offered for little money some years ago, I went to the seller to try it before handing over the money, and just while I was putting it through its paces, it died on me. Yet, the 949 was extremely noisy (not sure whether it was about to break or whether this was the usual noise inherent to the design), but so was the 910. I used it for processing instruments in the first place, mainly Rhodes and guitar, and for cascading, feedbacking washes of sound when running tape loops and reverbs through it - thanks to the internal delay, the 949 could come up with some really unusual stuff the MXR wasn't immediately capable of. It was loaned to me indefinitely (I returned both Eventides to their original owners some years ago) - I suppose it had been purchased second or third-hand by its owner back then. Can you tell me a bit more about your use of the H949? Did you buy it new back in the day or secondhand recently? How did you use it? There was something about the Eventides that scared me to death - I instinctively knew they would be expensive (if not impossible) to fix in case something breaks. The success of the H910 was gratifying, especially. It sounded better and felt more reliable. As part of its ongoing 50th Anniversary celebration, Eventide’s Flashback Series, which highlights groundbreaking products that first solidified the company as an audio technology leader, continues with the latest installment - H910 Harmonizer. Favoured by iconic artists such as David Bowie, Frank Zappa and AC/DC, the Eventide H910 is renowned as one of the most heavily used effects processors ever.

I settled for the MXR Pitch Transposer in the end.
